Associate Coordinator for the Refugee Council USA.

LUTHERAN IMMIGRATION AND REFUGEE SERVICE/REFUGEE COUNCIL USA POSITION DESCRIPTION

The individual who holds this full-time, exempt position based in Washington, D.C. is an employee of Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS) yet performs work for the Refugee Council USA (RCUSA).

The Refugee Council USA is a coalition of US non-governmental agencies focused on refugee protection. The Council provides focused advocacy on issues affecting the protection and rights of refugees, asylum seekers, displaced persons, victims of trafficking and victims of torture in the United States and across the world. Particular areas of concern are adherence to international standards of refugee rights, the promotion of the right to asylum, political and financial support for UNHCR and the promotion of durable solutions, including resettlement in the United States. The Refugee Council services as the principal consultative forum for the national refugee resettlement and processing agencies as they formulate common positions, conduct their relations with the US Government and other partners, and support and enhance refugee service standards.

Position Title: Associate Coordinator

Reporting Relationship: RCUSA Coordinator and Chair

Position Objective:

To fully manage all projects for which s/he is responsible and in direct cooperation with the Coordinator to best serve the respective Chair of the Refugee Council USA and its members for the purpose of maintaining and strengthening the coalition. In conjunction with the Coordinator, to take initiatives, provide support, and help guide the Councilís Standing Committees, specifically the Resettlement and Refugee Services Committee.

Qualifications:

(1) Strong commitment to the Councilís mission, goals, and objectives

(2) Proven experience working in the refugee and forced migration field

(3) Proven ability to work with a diverse coalition in a flexible and professional manner

(4) Proven ability to be self-motivated, juggling multiple tasks, and in a timely manner

(5) Ability to take initiatives, work independently yet coordinate closely with supervisor

(6) Ability to act professionally, in confidence, and with discretion

(7) Excellent verbal and written communication skills

( Proven competency in basic computer skills

(9) Prior experience working in a non-profit organization

(10) Proven administrative management skills

(11) B.A. required, M.A. preferred in relevant field of study

(12) Patience, understanding, and creativity in knowing how to get things accomplished

(13) Commitment to team work, joint problem solving, and a sense of humor

(14) Flexibility, willingness to accept and prioritize various responsibilities on short notice

(15) To be open to molding daily responsibilities to changing Council needs



Responsibilities:

(1) Manage, coordinate, follow through with all work for Resettlement sub/Committee(s)

(2) Communicate and coordinate with SCORR looking for new avenues of cooperation

(3) Supervise and oversee the work of the interns

(4) Participate in NE S. Asia, E Asia, and Europe/Eurasia Joint Regional Work Groups

(5) Prepare agenda, minutes for Protection Committee in cooperation with Coordinator

(6) Final production, distribution of consensus documents

(7) Maintenance of database and member lists

( Development, distribution of general information and resource materials to members

(9) Coordinate public events, conferences, and delegations

(10) Manage website and email accounts

(11) Preparation of needed documents for meetings/briefings and conference calls

(12) Maintenance of monthly and annual calendars and proper event communication

(13) Work in close cooperation with the Coordinator, take on responsibilities as needed
