The European Centre for the Study of Migration and Social Care (MASC) is recruiting for the 2006 intake of the European MA in Migration, Mental Health and Social Care.
This postgraduate course, taught at the Young Foundation in Bethnal Green, London, draws on research and practice experience from across Europe to address the challenges of providing health and social care services for both newly arrived and settled Black and Minority Ethnic groups.
Students benefit from the Centre's strong links with universities and services across Europe and will participate in three international workshops during the two years of the course workshops for the 2006 intake will be held in Greece, Netherlands and UK. These workshops supplement the two-day, monthly modules taught during the academic year. Modules include topics such as: the Social and Mental Health Needs of Minority Ethnic Groups; Transcultural Psychiatry; Cultural Diversity and Care Provision; and Rethinking Mental Health Care for Refugees and Asylum Seekers. Dissertations from past students have included research into the mental health care needs of Somali refugees; the role of Ethiopian Community Organisations in care provision; a survey of the attitudes of minority ethnic community groups to alcohol and substance misuse and an analysis of the eating patterns of recently arrived asylum seekers.
