SUNRISE (Strategic Upgrade of National Refugee Integration Services) is a Home Office initiative forming part of the Government’s ‘Integration Matters’ strategy published in 2004. SUNRISE aims to assist and support newly recognised refugees to smoothly and quickly integrate into UK society. Sunrise caseworkers and volunteers aim to help refugees and family members quickly access housing and welfare entitlements, and to develop and realise plans for training, further education and employment.

The Yorkshire and Humberside Sunrise Project is one of only four pilot projects in the UK recently selected to receive funding by the Home Office. Team members will be based in Leeds and Sheffield and our aim is to support 300 newly recognised refugees over the 27 month duration of the Project. Home Office referral of newly recognised refugees to the Sunrise Pilot Projects begins at the end of October 2005.

With first class communication and negotiating skills you will liaise effectively with a diverse range of clients, outside contacts and other teams within the Refugee Council. Your listening and empathising skills will be coupled with the ability to manage your own workload effectively and cope with the demands of working in a pressurised environment.
