Save the Children North West & Yorkshire Team
Assistant Development Officer
‘Brighter Futures’

£22,624 pro rata - 14 hours per week – Manchester until March 07

As part of Save the Children’s commitment to involving children in the realisation of their rights, we run a national scheme called ‘Brighter Futures’, a young refugee self-advocacy project.

Working within the North West regional team of Save the Children, you will be responsible for continuing the development of a refugee self-advocacy group as part of the national ‘Brighter Futures’ project, in Manchester.

To succeed in this post you will have experience of group-work and self advocacy methods with young people and/or support work with young refugees and an understanding of children’s rights and ways of working with young people which promote involvement, participation and empowerment. You will also need a basic understanding of the current social situation impacting on refugee young people’s rights, and good communication and negotiation skills.

You will need to be available to work on Wednesdays (afternoon-evening). Other occasional evening and weekend work is required and you will need to be willing to travel. This post is open to secondment and will run until March 2007.
