Non Press Advert
Regional Development Advisers (2)

21 hours per week, based Ipswich
35 hours per week based Leeds

Both posts are offered on temporary contracts until 30/9/2007

Grade 7

Salary £26,928 (pro rata for part time)

Refugees face considerable challenges settling in the UK and integrating into British society. The Home Office recently published Integration Matters, a national strategy for refugee integration that identifies key challenges in promoting integration as well as some of the resources needed to meet these challenges.

The Refugee Council’s Regional Development Team (RDT) promotes the integration of refugees outside London. Regional Development Advisers in four English regions work with regional consortia, other regional bodies, statutory service providers and local authorities. The team provides advice and information, supports local and regional networks and works with these networks to organise training and other events for refugee-assisting organisations.

To be successful, you will have broad knowledge and experience of working with asylum seekers, refugees, voluntary organisations, government offices, local authorities and statutory service providers. Knowledge of refugee issues, policies and refugee-assisting voluntary organisations in the UK is also required. You must have the ability to analyse new and rapidly changing situations and develop effective and timely responses in order to provide effective advice to voluntary and community organisations. You will be required to frequently travel within the appropriate region, and occasionally to London Head Office, therefore a degree of flexibility is needed. Your commitment to the work of the Refugee Council is vital along with an understanding of and the principles of Equal Opportunities.

Closing date for completed applications: Monday 15th January 2007

An application pack can be printed from the global drive – recruitment folder – current vacancies
