Based London

The Refugee Council provides direct services to individual asylum seekers and refugees both in London and in a number of other regions throughout the UK. The organisation is based in London, Birmingham, Leeds, Ipswich and Oakington. The Resources group includes Finance, Human Resources, IT and Business Services. The Communications Group includes four teams: Campaigns and Public Affairs, Fundraising, Information and Marketing and Refugee Week.

The main purpose of the job is to organise and manage the offices of the two directors. This will include providing professional administrative and secretarial support to the Director of Resources and the Director of Communications to ensure that all the f
unctions of their busy office run smoothly and efficiently. The postholder will also liaise with teams within the Resources and Communications group to ensure effective communication and to assist the Directors in delivering high quality results. Both Directors deal with a number of highly confidential and sensitive issues and the postholder must manage these appropriately.

You must have two years experience of providing administrative support within a busy office environment, with experience of using word processing and spreadsheet packages. Excellent administrative and organisational skills are needed, including the ability to identify administrative needs, develop systems and to organise meetings and events. An accurate typing speed of 60wpm is essential along with the ability to take concise and accurate minutes. You must have excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritise workloads, demonstrate attention to detail, meet deadlines and manage
the conflicting demands of a busy workload. Good interpersonal and communication skills are needed, including the ability to liaise effectively with colleagues and external contacts at all levels. Your commitment to the work of The Refugee Council is vital along with an understanding of the importance of confidentiality and the principles of Equal Opportunities.
