Sahra Ahmed is regarded as one of the best Somali female singers of all time and Hudaydi is known as the ‘king of the oud’ Sahra and Hudaydi are famous for their contribution to “Qaa’e” which is the basis of Somali contemporary music. Sahra emerged in 1960s Somalia as one of a new generation of musicians and singers. She was among the first artists to be recruited into the Waaberi, a popular and powerful music group.

Toohow and Kaltuun: female singers both started their carriers in the mid 1980s Kaltuun is very famous in Djibouti, while Tohow is beloved in the Somali Theatre. Mustafe Kiko; started his career as a drummer, you can hear his beat in the Somali oldies from late 1970s, Mustafe is also a composer.
Joohkle is a singer; writer, storyteller and actor who won the National Somali Prize Heesaha Hirgalay in 1973 (translated this means the “Winning Song”). In 1983 Joohkle also won for best singer with his own compositions and has subsequently been invited to sing on the radio in Somali. Abdifataah Ahmed and Abdikariim Fara Yara are new arrivals in the music business, often asked to sing at weddings, parties and community festivals. They are both loved for their clear voices and they are extremely popular with the young Somali community.
The lyrics of all the songs on this concert are new and are written by Ali Seenyo and composed by Mustafa Kiko.
