The Refugee Council is the largest organisation working with refugees and asylum seekers in the UK. Our services are supported by 400 paid staff and over 300 volunteers. A registered charity, the Refugee Council provides direct services and advice to refugees and asylum seekers in the UK, and works with partner and member agencies to raise awareness of both the national and international refugee situation.

The West Midlands interpreting services team are a key interface between Refugee Council front line staff and users of the service. The team performs a vital role in allowing clients to express their needs and thus facilitating their access to the Refugee Council and external services through providing a high standard of interpreting services. The post-holder will be required to provide quality interpreting services and will also be required to support the production and dissemination of client information by carrying out translation and proof-reading duties.

You will have experience of providing interpreting services in either a health, legal or advice giving capacity and, preferably, a recognised qualification in interpreting. It is essential for you to have fluency in English and Farsi, along with the ability to maintain an unbiased approach and interpret fully and accurately in a culturally sensitive manner. An understanding of confidentiality and the importance of impartiality in interpreting are needed. You must have excellent inter-personal skills and the ability to work within a team, establishing good working relationships with colleagues and other teams within the Refugee Council.
