The National Asylum Support Service (NASS) has, as of last week, been abolished. Former NASS operational staff and functions transfer to the New Asylum Model (NAM) operations, based largely in the regions. NAM is the new contact management casework process, so contact for support purposes is being aligned with contact in connection with an applicant's asylum claim.

Former NASS commercial and financial staff and functions become part of a new Asylum Resources Directorate. This replaces the previous Asylum Support and Casework Directorate. IND stakeholder management, including former NASS stakeholders, is one of the new responsiblities of Jeremy Oppenheim (formerly NASS Director). He also oversees unaccompanied children's services and foreign prisoners with mental illnesses.

Hopefully, this will streamline processes at least a bit for those with outstanding asylum claims who are in receipt of support (financial and/or accommodation) from the Home Office, possibly leading to less lost case notes/support claims etc. Then again, it's the Home Office...
