The Refugee Council is the lead Partner in the Refugee Enterprise Project that has been running since November 2005. Refugees face a number of barriers in setting up their own businesses and mainstream advisers are not always sufficiently aware of the issues and how to offer appropriate support. The project aims to improve the uptake and sustainability of refugee enterprise and improve the quality of advice and support for refugees who wish to set up their own business. The project involves developing toolkits and a website, running training for business advisers, supporting would be entrepreneurs, setting up regional partnerships, working with mainstream and community based business advisers and running regional and national seminars

We are looking for an enthusiastic and efficient manager to work with our partners from the refugee sector and the enterprise sector. You will be expected to co-ordinate the programme of work and ensure that the project plan is developed and delivered to a very tight timescale.

Strong verbal and written communication skills are needed, including excellent interpersonal and negotiating skills. You must be able to acquire and understand complex new information quickly, and maintain a strategic overview of the project. Your commitment to the work of The Refugee Council is vital along with an understanding of the importance of confidentiality and the principles of Equal Opportunities.

The project is funded by the Small Business Service’s Phoenix Fund, which aims to promote economic and social inclusion through supporting innovative approaches to enterprise creation and development with disadvantaged communities.
