Bail for Immigration Detainees (BID)
Oxford Manager (p/t)
(maternity leave cover)
£25772
(£12886 for 2.5 days per week)
12 month contract from October 2006
BID believes that asylum-seekers and migrants in the UK have a right to liberty and should be protected from arbitrary and prolonged detention by effective and accessible legal safeguards. It is an independent charity that exists to improve access to bail for all immigration detainees; lobbies for detention to be subject to regular independent, automatic judicial review; works towards an end to arbitrary detention in the UK and to end the detention of children and families.
BID has a head office in London, and two small sub-offices in Oxford and Portsmouth.
Applications are invited for a locum post as our Oxford Manager. The successful candidate will be a barrister, solicitor or immigration adviser with Level 3 OISC accreditation, excellent communication skills and at least two years’ experience of preparing and presenting bail applications. Duties will include general office management, recruitment and management of volunteers, preparing and presenting bail applications and applications for temporary admission, and carrying out workshops in detention centres.
Further information and details of how to apply can be downloaded from our website www.biduk.org, or send an A4 SAE to BID, 28 Commercial St, London E1 6LS. For an informal discussion about the post, please contact the current Oxford Manager, Natalie Poynter on 08453 304 536. Closing date for applications: 25th August 2006. Interviews: week beginning 4th September. |
