Subject: Advisory Panel on Country Information: new members required

Advisory Panel on Country Information (APCI): new members required.

The Home Office is currently seeking to appoint 3 additional members to the
Advisory Panel on Country Information.

The Advisory Panel on Country Information (APCI) is an advisory
non-departmental public body established under provisions in the
Nationality, Immigration and Asylum Act 2002. Its function is to consider
and make recommendations to the Secretary of State about the content of
country of origin information material produced by the Home Office for use
by officials working in the asylum determination process. The Panel usually
meets twice a year, in London. Members do not receive any remuneration but
can claim travel and subsistence expenses.

Members of the Advisory Panel are expected to contribute to its work and
help to ensure that it carries out its statutory function effectively. In
order to fulfil these roles effectively, candidates for the posts should
have experience in migration / refugee / development / human rights issues
or related fields. This experience may be based on academic research, or
work in relevant governmental, intergovernmental or non-governmental
organisations. They should also be able to communicate effectively and be
able to work constructively with others.

It would also be useful for them to have skills / experience in the
following areas:

* Understanding of the role of country of origin information in the
asylum process.

* Good knowledge of the kind of material used as source documents for
the Home Office's country of origin information documents; and the work of
the key organisations that produce it.

* Understanding of public service values.

Candidates are required to complete the application form provided with the
