Interim Director of Policy and Development

The Chief Executive of the Refugee Council is leaving at the end of September and her deputy, who is also the Director of Policy and Development, will become Acting Chief Executive until a successor starts. We anticipate that this will be for 3 months from October 2006 although it may be longer. We are therefore seeking an interim director to lead the directorate and contribute to the Senior Management Team during an important period when strategic decisions about the future need to be taken.

The interim Director of Policy and Development will lead the Policy and Development Group, and contribute as a member of the Senior Management team to the development of the Refugee Council. They will lead the Refugee Council’s support and partnership work with external organisations which assist refugees and asylum seekers and will lead the Refugee Council’s domestic and international policy development based on research, analysis and experience of the Refugee Council’s own direct services.

The successful candidate will have senior management experience in the voluntary or public sector along with experience of managing organisational development and change. You will manage staff from many different multi-cultural backgrounds and need to have a good understanding of issues relating to asylum seekers and refugees. With proven leadership skills, you will need to be a good communicator, well organised and diplomatic. A commitment to the objectives of the organisation and to working in a multi-cultural organisation is essential.
