Network Development Officer
(Part time 21 hours per week, temporary until 31st March 2007)

Grade 5
Salary £21,588 pro rata
Based Birmingham
The Refugee Strategy Network brings together voluntary & community organisations working with refugees and asylum seekers in the West Midlands. The Network aims to promote the integration of refugees in the West Midlands by building the capacity of voluntary and community organisations and helping them shape regional policies and services.

Based in the Refugee Council's Birmingham office, the Network Development Officer will take the lead in organising network activities. These include steering group meetings, a regular newsletter, assessing development needs, briefings and other information, events, consultations and network participation in key regional bodies. A member of the Refugee Council’s Regional Development Team, you will work closely with the West Midlands Strategic Partnership for Asylum and Refugee Support and other regional stakeholders, including refugee-led community organisations and networks.

Experience in the process related to influencing policy in a similar environment and at a strategic level is essential as are excellent communication and organisational skills. Self-motivated and IT literate, you will be a strong team player with an inclusive, pro-active style. Your knowledge of voluntary organisations and/or issues relating to refuges and asylum seekers will be backed by the ability to analyse information, plan a programme of work, produce reports and work effectively in a multi-cultural environment. Your commitment to the work of The Refugee Council is vital along with an understanding of the importance of confidentiality and the principles of Equal Opportunities.
