LITIGATION SOLICITOR

Salary: £31,318- £ 36,417 per annum
(including £3,100 London Weighting)

We are looking for a highly motivated and committed individual to work in a small team providing in –house litigation services at the Refugee Legal Centre to provide cover for extended leave of a 12 month period, from January 2007-December 2007.
The role played by the Litigation Solicitor is crucial to the success of the organisation and its continuing ability to offer legal expertise in the fast-moving field of asylum. You will be working with colleagues across the Refugee Legal Centre to take forward claims for judicial review, and appeals to the Court of Appeal. The role will also include providing advice to colleagues on legal developments and contributing to the development of organisational legal strategy. You must be able to work as part of a team, be flexible and persuasive.

Our ideal candidate;
• will be a Qualified Solicitor with significant experience of bringing claims for judicial review, and appeals to the Court of Appeal within the terms of a Legal Services Commission contract
• will be accredited at Level 2 in accordance with the Law Society’s Accreditation Scheme for Immigration Advice
• have an in-depth knowledge of asylum and immigration law, and be familiar with public law remedies available to our client group
• have the ability to take on cases at short notice, and work within tight deadlines in a fast paced environment
• have the ability to advise the organisation on the wider implications of cases being challenged
• have the ability to provide legal training to Caseworkers, and
• must be a team player with excellent communication and time management skills
