Based Birmingham

Based in one of The Refugee Council’s regional offices in the Residual Reception Service team, you will provide assistance to newly arrived asylum seekers and ongoing advice and support to refugees.

Working as part of a team of paid staff and volunteers, you will give advice and information to newly arrived asylum seekers in the Residual Reception Service team in Birmingham. Working in conjunction with other agencies and community organisations you will help refugees and asylum seekers to access a range of relevant services across the region.
To be successful you will have 2 years’ experience of advice work in the UK together with a sound knowledge of the National Asylum Support System, social security, homelessness and an understanding of how these affect refugees.

With first class communication and negotiating skills you will liaise effectively with a diverse range of clients, outside contacts and other teams within the Refugee Council. Your listening and empathising skills will be coupled with the ability to manage your own workload effectively and cope with the demands of working in a pressurised environment.
