MSc in Refugee Studies, Post-Graduate Diploma in Refugee Studies and Post-Graduate Certificate in International Refugee Law and Policy
Taught by staff with wide range of theoretical, practical and research experiences of refugee studies in the European Union, Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, the MSc is a unique opportunity to study forced migration and their interface with development issues. Knowledge of both disciplines is essential to understand and explain the causes and consequences of involuntary population displacements; and analyse, critique and evaluate host governments’ policies, reception and settlement strategies, as well as the short and long-term responses of inter and non-governmental organisations.

The problem of forced migration in developing societies is inextricably linked with issues pertaining to
development or lack of development both in terms of causality and solutions. It is no coincidence that the largest population displacements have been occurring in regions where poverty and deprivation are part of everyday life. The search for solutions to the problem of involuntary displacement, both in countries of asylum and countries of origin, is inseparable from development.

The MSc in Refugee Studies offers the following units:
Research Methods
Images of Development
Gender and Development
Globalisation, International Business and Development
International Refugee Law
Forced Migration and Human Rights
The Refugee Problem in Developing Societies
Asylum Policy in the EU and Member States
A research dissertation forms a central part of the course, with staff offering detailed supervision.

The Pg. Dip in Refugee Studies offers all the above named units minus the dissertation.

Requirements:

Any undergraduate degree or professional equivalent.
