The Regional Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Brussels is seeking to fill the following vacancy :
Liaison Assistant (GL.6) to the European Union Policy Unit
Job description :
We are looking for a motivated and flexible team player to work under the supervision of the Head of the EU Policy Unit in Brussels, in close co-operation with the other members of the Unit. Duties include :
- Administrative and research tasks on refugee and asylum law and policy in the European Union, as well as other issues relevant to the mandate of UNHCR;
- Monitoring developments on EU asylum issues, including through websites and other sources; circulating relevant information within and outside UNHCR;
- Preparing summaries of key documents and reports of EU institutions on asylum; drafting correspondence, periodic reports on the Unit’s activities, analysis and policy papers as instructed, and other documents;
- Serving as office manager for the EU Policy Unit, including through managing of correspondence, files and archives (electronic and hard copy), planning and organizing meetings (including medium- to large-scale seminars and training events), arranging travel and other tasks in support of Unit personnel;
- Performs other duties as required.
Education : Complete secondary education, preferably with post-secondary education for instance in European affairs, international relations, law or other relevant discipline. Secretarial and/or administrative training desirable.
Experience /knowledge: 5 years relevant work experience.
Languages : Fluency in oral and written French and English is essential. Knowledge of another European language is desirable.
Skills : Excellent organizational and strong communication skills. Thorough knowledge of the European Institutions and their structure and functioning. High standard of computer skills and modern office software and procedures. Professional demeanour. Ability to maintain good working relations with partners.
