The Refugee Council is the largest charity working with asylum seekers and refugees in the UK, and provides services to clients in offices in London, Ipswich, Leeds, Hull, Oakington, Sheffield and Birmingham.
The resettlement team will provide advice and support for resettled refugees to help them access services and mainstream provision, and establish community links. The Refugee Council is working as lead agency, in partnership with The British Red Cross, to deliver the support and assistance as part of the Gateway Protection Programme in Norwich. Working closely with local stakeholders and other voluntary sector agencies running similar services across the UK, the Refugee Council resettlement team in Norwich will promote both the integration and independence of this group.
Working with the Resettlement Project Manager the Project Workers will be responsible for the provision of day-to-day advice and assistance to refugees arriving in Norwich through the Gateway Protection Programme. With advice-giving experience, an understanding of the difficulties newly-arrived refugees may face, and first-class communication and negotiating skills, you will liaise effectively with clients, and a range of external contacts, and other teams within the Refugee Council and the British Red Cross. Your listening and empathising skills will be coupled with the ability to manage your own workload effectively and to cope with the demands of working in a pressurised environment. Your commitment to the work of The Refugee Council is vital along with an understanding of the importance of confidentiality and the principles of Equal Opportunities
One of the posts will be a British Red Cross employee, seconded to the Refugee Council.
