Job Title: Project Worker – Leading the T&G Migrant Workers Support Unit
Salary: £37,000
Term: Fixed Term for 2 years
Location: Based in T&G Central Office, Holborn, London – involving travel around the country
Reporting to: Director of Organising

Job Purpose

The primary function of the Project Worker is to lead the newly formed T&G Migrant Workers Support Unit, within the T&G National Organising Unit. This will be achieved through assessing the needs of migrant workers and tailoring T&G support to migrant workers – for both existing T&G members and prospective members.

Job Content

Policy – Helping to inform T&G policy on immigration and migrant workers’ rights, working closely with other T&G departments

Advice – To provide advice to Shop Stewards, Officers and Organisers on the following areas:
• Employment rights for migrant workers
• Migration
• Welfare/benefits for migrant workers

Legal – To work with the T&G Legal Department to ensure the needs of migrant workers are incorporated

Community Groups – To develop and build sustainable links with migrant support organisations and to assist T&G regional structures in building local community links

Organising Campaigns – To assist in national and regional T&G organising campaigns involving high proportions of migrant workers

Representation – To represent the Union on migration issues internally and externally at various levels

Health & Safety – To work with the T&G Health and Safety Department to tailor information towards migrant workers, making it more accessible and ensuring that the needs of migrant workers are included in Health and Safety policy and advice

Training – Working with internal departments and external bodies to develop training materials and programmes aimed at migrant workers and Shop Stewards, Officers, Organisers and others working directly with migrant workers

Translation/Interpretation – To co-ordinate sources of translation and interpretation facilities to assist members, shop stewards, organisers and officers

Term: Fixed Term for 2 years
Location: Based in T&G Central Office, Holborn, London – involving travel around the country
Reporting to: Project Worker/Project Manager

Job Purpose

Support work in the newly formed T&G Migrant Workers Support Unit, within the T&G National Organising Unit. The Unit will be assessing the needs of migrant workers and tailoring T&G support to migrant workers – for both existing T&G members and prospective members.
