Sessional Co-ordinator for Parentline Plus pilot

Refugee Council London Operations is looking for a sessional co-ordinator to organise Parentline (Plus PL+) pilot training sessions in Brixton.

We are working in partnership with PL+ to train facilitators who then once trained will provide parenting support and training to asylum seekers and refugees. This is an interesting initiative aiming to reach excluded communities and develop suitable methods and material for them. The pilot will be professionally evaluated and we all hope to benefit from the experience and the outcome of the evaluation. The co-ordinator will start working in November to recruit candidates for training which will run in February March 2007. A fuller list of tasks is included in the job description.

We would welcome applications from interpreters, volunteers and mentors. Each session will be 3 hours and the pay per session is 40.50. During November and December the availability of the co-ordinator can be flexible, in January and February while the training sessions are running the co-ordinators presence will be required.

Job Description

Parentline Plus and Refugee Council will be running a pilot to train facilitators to provide parenting support and training to asylum seekers and refugees.

The purpose of the job is to publicise the pilot among other volunteers and service users, to respond to questions and co-ordinate the open day, during which the final 12 participants to the training course will be selected.

The co-ordinator will work with volunteer co-ordinators, staff and managers to publicise the scheme, evaluate the response and if necessary widen the publicity. Once the final selection has been made with the help of Parentline + trainers, the co-ordinator will organise the 6 day training session. A more detailed task list for each stage is below:
The project consists of 3 phases:
Phase 1 (November December)
To publicize the course among existing volunteers, interpreters and mentors.
To evaluate the response and help selecting 20 25 possible candidates in November - December.
To work with colleagues to access the contact details of volunteers, mentors and other potential trainees
To attend meetings of colleagues to explain the pilot and necessary qualities required to become a participant To publicise the pilot, explain the benefits and answer questions
To collect the responses and following an initial assessment, if necessary widen the recruitment
To administer the collection and storage of applications

Phase 2 (January)
To work with Parentline Plus to organise the open day in January to select 12 suitable candidates in for the training sessions in February March
Once the participant have been selected, notify them, collect contact details and maintain contact up to the training
To set up administrative and financial procedures to account for the expenses payable to participants.
To liaise with the day centre and kitchen staff to prepare the venues and organise food and refreshments

Phase 3 (February March)
To be available during 6 days of training in January to act as the administrator, pay attendees the expenses, keep a record of the expenses and respond to their queries
To be the contact point for the attendees for their queries and provide them necessary support to enable them to complete the sessions
To be available for 6 days to monitor the attendance of participants and to follow on complaints and other comments
To liaise with trainers and help them to deliver the training in the most effective way
To liaise with the evaluating consultant work with him / her for an effective evaluation
To close the accounts at the end of 6 days of training and provide invoices and receipts

Person Specification
Ability to communicate with individuals from diverse backgrounds and engage them in the project
Experience of using a pc, designing simple spreadsheets
Experience is dealing with petty cash
Experience in financial and general administration
Knowledge of working of Refugee Council will be an advantage
