Tenancy Support Worker in the Resettlement Team
(Temporary until 31st may 2007)
Grade 5
Salary £21,588 pro rata
Based Norwich
The Refugee Council is the largest charity working with asylum seekers and refugees in the UK, and provides services to clients from offices in London, Ipswich, Oakington, Leeds, Hull, Sheffield and Birmingham.
The Refugee Council is working as lead agency, in partnership with British Red Cross, to deliver support services within the programme in Norwich. The resettlement team will provide advice and assistance for resettled refugees to help them access services and mainstream provision, and establish community links. Working closely with Council counterparts, local stakeholders, and in partnership with other voluntary sector agencies running similar services across the UK, the Refugee Council resettlement team in Norwich will promote both the integration and independence of this group.
Working with the Resettlement Project Manager and Resettlement Project Workers, the Tenancy Support Worker will provide advice and assistance on tenancy rights and responsibilities and offer practical housing-related support to refugees arriving in Norwich through the Gateway Protection Programme.
You must have experience of housing/tenancy support work, along with a working knowledge of housing legislation and welfare rights relating to housing. An understanding of the difficulties newly arrived refugees may face is needed and excellent interpersonal communication skills to enable you to communicate with a wide range of people. You must have good, clear written and spoken English, the ability to work on your own initiative and also as part of a team. Your commitment to the work of The Refugee Council is vital along with an understanding of the importance of confidentiality and the principles of Equal Opportunities.
