Subject: [TJnetwork] ATJRN Second Regional Capacity Building Workshop

The ATJRN will be hosting its second regional capacity building workshop from December 3 - 5, 2006. The workshop will take place in Kampala, Uganda and will be hosted by the East African regional partner for the Network, the Refugee Law Project, Makerere University. Participation will be open to researchers based in the Great Lakes / Horn of Africa region.

Given the history of mass displacement and cyclical population flows in the Great Lakes region, the workshop will focus on research and practical issues related to displacement and transitional justice. Topics covered will include reintegration of ex-combatants and internally displaced persons, the challenges posed to national reconciliation by re-insertion programs, ethical and methodological issues in conducting research with displaced populations and the role of civil society in moving beyond nation - state bounded reconciliation initiatives to conceptualize mechanisms which address the regional nature of the conflict.

Individuals interested in applying to attend the workshop should fill out the attached application form (the form will also be accessible shortly on the website at www.transitionaljustice.org.za ) and send the completed form to research@refugeelawproject.org by no later than November 3, 2006.
