Job Description

The London Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees is seeking to fill the following vacancy:
Principal Secretary / Personal Assistant to the Representative (GL.6) Post No 652016

Job description:

We are looking for a motivated and flexible team player to work under the supervision of the Representative, in close co-operation with the other members of the Senior Management team. Duties include:

Serving as office manager for the Executive Office, including through managing of correspondence, files and archives (electronic and hard copy); receiving visitors; planning and organizing meetings (both internal and external, including medium- to large-scale functions), arranging travel and other tasks in support of the Executive Office;
Administrative and research tasks on refugee and asylum issues and on other matters relevant to the mandate of UNHCR;
Preparing summaries of key documents and reports for the Representative; drafting correspondence, periodic reports and other documents;
Performing other duties as required.

Education: Complete secondary education, preferably with post-secondary education; for instance, specializing in international relations, law or other relevant discipline. Secretarial and/or administrative training desirable.

Experience /knowledge: 5 years relevant work experience.

Languages: Fluency in oral and written English is essential. Knowledge of another UN Working Language is desirable.

Skills: Excellent organizational and strong communication skills. Good writing skills. High standard of computer skills and ability to work with modern office software and procedures. Professional and discreet comportment. Ability to maintain good working relations with office team and partners.

Salary: approximately, 30,000, depending on experience. An initial contract of 3 months will be offered on a trial basis. Subject to satisfactory performance, a contract may be issued on a longer basis.
