Non Press Advert
Deputy Team Manager
(temporary post until 30th March 2007)

Grade 7
Salary £26,928 pro-rata
Based Birmingham

The Refugee Council has signed a Grant Agreement with the Home Office for the provision of advice and support to asylum seekers and refugees by teams providing ‘One Stop Services’. These Asylum Support teams give support to asylum seekers and refugees from their offices and from outreach venues in the regions. This support involves assistance with asylum seekers’ applications to the National Asylum Support Service (NASS) of the Home Office. Asylum seekers housed in the region are also able to access the One Stop Services for advice and support, as are refugees who have had a decision on their claims for asylum and are entering mainstream services.

The teams also work with other Refugee Council teams and with other agencies, including community organisations, local authorities, housing providers, health services, legal and advice services, Immigration Service staff, police, and interpreting services, to enable refugees and asylum seekers to access a range of relevant services across the regions.

Deputy Team Managers are key members of the management team in each regional office. They are responsible for the line management of all project staff who deliver direct services to clients. Project workers also provide second tier support, e.g. through telephone advice lines for clients and other agencies, and through undertaking service development projects within the region.

The successful candidate will have experience of managing direct services to vulnerable client groups and will possess experience of staff management and development. Your experience will have given you the ability to effectively manage a large workload within a pressurised environment. You will have the confidence to make operational decisions as required, ensuring that the services meet their contractual obligations, be able to implement quality assurance systems and contribute to planning and developing services. As the post holder you will be comfortable managing financial resources prudently and in ensuring services and staff comply with health and safety standards. Further to this you will require knowledge of asylum determination procedures and of the importance of impartiality and confidentially. Your commitment to Equal Opportunities and to the rights of refuges and asylum seekers is equally important.

Closing date for completed applications: Tuesday 23rd January
Interviews to be held Monday 29th January

An application pack can be printed from the global drive – recruitment folder – current vacancies

Alternatively contact Roger McCann by email
(roger.mccann@refugeecouncil.org.uk) or by telephone on 020 7346 6724.

Please note that for operational reasons no applications can be accepted after the deadline.
