|
|
I am currently doing some research in support of asylum claims and I am trying to prevent deportation of a Cameroonian gay and SCNC activist.
His solicitors urgently require an expert witness who may present evidence of risks to men known to have sex with men on return to Cameroon.
I was wondering whether some of you might have any relevant contacts? It's rather urgent as the deportation is scheduled for 18 May.
Many thanks

they should contact UKLGIG
http://www.uklgig.org.uk/
Quote: | If anyone is representing an LGBT individual claiming asylum we would urge you to make contact with the UKLGIG asylum project, both to access resources and to feed back on cases. Sebastian Rocca is the asylum project coordinator(sebastian@uklgig.org.uk). The project meets monthly. Details of a consultation in respect of newly drafted Sexual and Gender Identity Guidelines will be circulated shortly. These have been drafted by UKLGIG and ILPA. There will be an ILPA/UKLGIG training on the 12th July and a launch of the guidelines the same day. Details can be found on the respective websites: http://www.ilpa.org.uk/ (see "latest news") & http://www.uklgig.org.uk/ Lots to keep you busy! Watch this space.... |
They are meeting next week:
Quote: | Thursday 10th May 2007 from 6:30-8:30pm
32-36 Loman Street
Southwark
London
SE1 0EH
(Nearest tube: Southwark - Jubilee Line)
The meetings usually start with a talk given by two solicitors and a barrister, then general questions. Afterwards asylum seekers can have an informal one to one discussion with one of the solicitors.
The meetings may be a vital first point of contact for those who have not yet made an asylum application and who have a real fear of persecution if they return home. At the meetings you will also meet the Asylum Project Manager who will support you and find you a legal aid solicitor if you need one.
If you are planning to attend our next Asylum Support Meeting and you would like the solicitors to discuss a specific topic or issue that you are facing, please email our asylum project manager <sebastian@uklgig.org.uk>.
