|
|
This innovative and timely programme offers a unique opportunity for students to undertake study in two different areas, Refugee Studies and International Social Work. Important connections exist - and need to be made clearer - between the experiences of refugees and current social work practice. As interest in the implications of forced migration has increased over the past decade, so has the need to be able to draw together different aspects of the refugee experience in the countries where resettlement occurs.
Programme Content
The MA Refugee Studies and Community Development programme is located within the School of Social Sciences, Media and Cultural Studies at the University of East London, and draws upon expertise from our flagship programmes in International Social Work and Refugee Studies. This new interdisciplinary MA degree combines critical analysis of social care for refugees with community development concerns.
The programme will enhance the knowledge of professionals, policy makers, and practitioners at local, national and international levels to respond appropriately to the development of both refugee communities and the wider communities in which they are situated. It addresses the theoretical and practical needs of social care workers with or without professional qualifications in communities where caseloads include a prevalence of refugees and asylum seekers
Admission Requirements
Applicants for this course will be required to have a good first degree in a relevant area of study or substantial professional experience in a relevant field. Applicants should be able to demonstrate that they have relevant previous experience and that the programme is appropriate to future work plans.
